GHOSTS
Of the Shiretown
Photos chosen and submitted by Henry Gartley '77
Editor’s Note: Bad is me! We inadvertently left Henry’s column out of the Spring/Summer ’22 issue.
We apologize for this oversight as his column is always popular. We have made up for this with this issue’s very interesting
glimpse at our past in Houlton.
E. B. White Photo’s
Edward Breck White was born in Hope, ME
in 1852 and came to Houlton during the early
1880’s and had his business established by
1894.
He did fine watch repair, was a watchmaker
and jeweler. His business also dealt in sporting
goods including guns.
E.B. White was an avid outdoorsman and an
avid photographer. He documented much of
the early town and the Museum is fortunate
enough to possess this huge collection .
Many of his photos are scenes from the
Aroostook Woods and are of his adventures
with friends, Walter Mansur and Charles West.
