Around Town, continued...
Temple Theatre - “Lost on a Mountain
in Maine”
Editor’s Note: What do Sylvester Stallone and Houlton have
in common? They both love the story of Donn Fendler –
the twelve-year-old boy that was lost for 9 days on Mount
Katahdin in 1929. Stallone’s production company produced
this wonderful movie. For many of us, this was a must read
when we were in grade school and Donn visited Houlton
and The County several times. If you have not seen the
movie and it becomes available on one of the many tv
movie channels, please do so. It is a wonderful movie about
father/son relationships and a boy’s strong will. I am betting
it will be a 95% on the Rotten Tomato review!!!
The month of November has been a busy one at the Successful sale of books at the County Co-op & Farm Store
Temple Theatre. “Lost on a Mountain in Maine, the Story
of Donn Fendler”, is on the big screen for the month.
Approximately 1700 school kids from Northern Maine
have been arriving during the week to see the movie.
Many of them have been treated to free popcorn and
soda. When they head home, they receive a free ticket to
return for another movie. Their teachers receive tickets
and a coupon for a pizza at Market Pizza.
Houlton Gateway Ambassadors have been at the theater
for every show to help usher kids into the theater, assist
with snacks, and hand out free tickets as they leave. We
helped raise funding for additional students to be able
to attend. Speaking on behalf of the Ambassadors, this
has been an amazing experience for all of us and we have
loved assisting with this event.
A big thank you to Fred Grant ‘88 and Jason Howe ‘96 for
making this possible. As a result of their great planning, Excited schoolmates with their goodies waiting to see the movie
this event has run so smoothly that getting everyone
into the theater with their snacks has only taken minutes.
It’s been a wonderful experience for everyone involved.
Once again, Houlton is the place to be!
