SUMMER • 2018

        NEW SCHOLARSHIPS PRESENTED

Nearly $53,000 in Total Awards for 2018!

                                                                                      Nancy Ketch Class of ‘82

The last few years, the Houlton High School Alumni Association has presented $50,000 in scholarships to the
graduating seniors, with the exception of special presentations for our anniversary years. This year we were able to
increase our giving by awarding two brand new scholarships and one that is only in its 2nd year.

At Last Chapel in June, the Alumni Association presented $52,850 in scholarships to the Class of 2018. There were
a total of 26 individual awards handed out which allowed us to assist approximately a third of the graduating class
and more than half of those continuing their education.

One new scholarship this year was a $1,000 award presented to Michael Ross from the Aaron A. & Maria H.
Putnam Family Scholarship Fund. This Fund was established in late 2016 with a gift from the Aaron A. & Maria
        H. Putnam Family Trust to the Alumni Association for the establishment of a named scholarship. This will be
an ongoing scholarship presented each year. The recipient plans to attend Eastern Maine Community College
        (EMCC) studying HVAC.

A $1,000 award from the Patricia Donovan Fitzpatrick and Michael Donovan Family Scholarship Fund was
presented to Sierra Rhoda who will be majoring in Secondary Science Education at Thomas College. Michael
Donovan ’57 established this award to recognize his sister Patty ’63 who is the Secretary of the Alumni Board. Patty
has served the Alumni Association in this capacity for several years and is an integral part of all Alumni activities.
The award is presented to a student planning to major in Education.

Presented for the 2nd year and to become an annual award, was the Thomas M. Brown Memorial Scholarship. This
year, a $1,750 scholarship was presented to Dominic Miller who will be attending Husson University majoring in
Political Science. Per Tom’s request, the award will be presented each year to a student with plans to study History,
