able to complete a 150-hour internship with the Maine State Police at Troop F in Houlton. Part of this internship took her to
the Maine Criminal Justice Academy (MCJA) in Vassalboro to complete the physical fitness test. Mallory stated this experience
gave her insight into law enforcement in rural Maine while also helping her complete a college class in her major. In
four years, Mallory completed & received a BS in Criminal Justice & a BA in psychology while minoring in theater &
maintaining a GPA of 3.7 which awarded her Magna Cum Laude status at graduation. The only negative experience Mallory
spoke about was during her freshman year when a possible shooter was thought to be on campus & rooms were searched
looking for the shooter, but thankfully, no one was hurt & the shooter was found. During her time in Connecticut, Mallory
realized she did not want to live there and returned home to Houlton.

Upon returning to Houlton, Mallory worked the summer of 2017 at The Bus in Monument Park, which is owned by her aunt.
With cooler weather moving in, Mallory found her next job at Dunkin Donuts in Houlton serving up coffee & edibles to
the community. In December 2017, Mallory was super excited to receive an offer to join the Houlton Police Department as a
full-time officer which she accepted. As a result, Mallory went off to the MCJA in Vassalboro again, but this time to complete
the eighteen- week basic law enforcement training program as part of the 34th class. All officers in the State of Maine must
complete this class whether working for a municipality, county or state department. Out of 65 officers, Mallory represented
Houlton PD well striving for the best. On May 18, 2018, Officer Mallory Clayton graduated from the training program only
0.4 points short of the top scoring officer. Mallory returned to Houlton as one of three females on the twelve officer Houlton
Police Department roster. At submission, Officer Clayton is four weeks into her field training with a seasoned officer learning
the local policies and procedures. By August, Mallory hopes to be released from her training & patrolling Houlton on her own.

Mallory commented that she loves the job she is in now due to the interactions with locals she knows or who knew
her before college. She wants to help out and get involved in the Houlton community. One activity she has been
involved in since returning from college is volleyball at the Greater Houlton Christian Academy (GHCA), the former High
School and Lambert School. Mallory looks forward to more involvement in Houlton, both as a citizen as well as an officer.
Activities we talked about included: McGill’s Community Band, MADD of Maine, HHSAA, getting involved in Houlton’s
school activities (sports, dances, etc.). When asked about the future, she stated she would definitely stay in the Houlton area.
She feels with Houlton PD, Aroostook Sherriff & Maine State Police all in the area she can be challenged while staying in law
enforcement and the Houlton area she loves.
