A RECORD $76,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS

 FALL/WINTER  •  2019  Last Chapel is always an exciting night when Houlton High Seniors receive scholarships and awards as
        they prepare for the next chapter in their lives and the Houlton High School Alumni Association has had a
        huge presence at the event for many years.  This year, however, was a record setting year as the Alumni
        Association presented $76,000 in scholarships to members of the Class of 2019.  As part of that, there
        were several first time awards from some of our named scholarship funds.  This is a great testament to
        the support and love of our alums who give so
        generously!

        This was the first year to present scholarships
        from the Hamilton & Maxine Giberson Fund and
        we were able to present four $5,000 scholarships
        in their name.  Those recipients were as follows:
        Wyatt Harvey who is attending Johnson and
        Wales studying Business/Culinary; Taylor Cowan
        who is studying Early Education at the University
        of Maine Presque Isle (UMPI); Kaitlyn Smith who
        is studying Computer Science at Johnson and
        Wales; and, Tessa Solomon who is studying
        Business/Music at the University of Maine at
        Orono (UMO).


        We presented eight scholarships totaling $5,000         John Carson'62 extends challenge to other classes to start a class
        in all.  The other recipients were as follows:  Ryder                        scholarship
        Graham who received a $5,000 scholarship from
        the Henry, Elizabeth & Janet White Fund to study Aerospace Engineering at Embry Riddle; Gabriella Guiod
        also received $5,000 from the White fund to attend the UMO  studying Biology; Sydney Sides received
        $5,000 from the White Fund and is studying Early Education at Thomas College; and, Jillian Haggerty
        received $4,000 from the White Fund combined with the $1,000 Thomas Brown Scholarship and she is
        Pre-Law at UMO.

                                                                  Davan Thornton is attending the University of
                                                                  Maine at Augusta (UMA) studying to be a Vet
                                                                  Tech.  He received a total of $4,000 including a
                                                                  $2,200 scholarship from the James F. McPartland
                                                                  Fund and $1,800 from the Alumni Association.

                                                                  A $3,500 scholarship from the White Fund was
                                                                  presented to Benjamin Grant who is studying
                                                                  Sports Management at Thomas College.

                                                                  There were 10 recipients of scholarships totaling
                                                                  $2,750. Several of these included the first-time
                                                                  presentations.

                                                                  Alexander Wilde is studying Psychiatry at Brown
                                                                  University and received a $1,000 scholarship
        Karen Cyr Gallop '64 presented scholarship on behalf of Class of 1964  from the Aaron & Maria Putnam Trust Fund
                                                                  combined with $1,750 from the Alumni
                                                                  Association.

        Nolan Porter, who is attending Rochester Institute of Technology for Software Engineering, was presented
        with the first ever scholarship from the Gerard A. & F. Hope York Fund in the amount of $1,000 which was
