Around Town

        The Book and Brew Cafe

Are you looking for a quiet, cozy spot to sit with a friend and
sip a latte? Maybe you’d like to spend some time browsing
shelves full of books. Now you can do both at the Book and
Brew Cafe on Court Street. Kashonnon Elgin has transformed the
former Serendipity Embroidery Shop into her own cozy space.
In addition to espresso drinks and other fancy beverages, she
offers a pastry case and a variety of lunch sandwiches.
See if you can name all of the authors pictured on the wall. Sign
up for one of the book clubs or attend the special events that
are offered. This new space is the talk of the town. If you haven’t
visited yet, grab a friend and go relax with your favorite drink or
lunch. Take your laptop and do some work. Take your crossword
puzzle book and sit by yourself with your favorite mocha.
The Book and Brew Cafe is a welcome addition to Downtown Houlton.

                                                             The Living Room

Houlton has just welcomed another new business to
Downtown. The Living Room is the brainchild of Randi
Bradbury and Ira Dyer-Aroostook County natives who have
returned to Houlton after years away. They own the former
White’s Drug Store building which they had rented out to
several businesses. Now they have decided to use the space
                                                             for their own business.

The Living Room will be a unique concept for Houlton. They
are creating a welcoming space for a variety of activities.
They will offer a variety of public programs and events that
everyone can attend. You can rent the full facility for a small
wedding or reception, baby or bridal shower. You can rent
it for whatever program you can think up. Or you can rent a
meeting room, equipped with technology, for a small business gathering.
The most unique aspect of this business is that membership options are offered. There are three membership levels
available at different price points that give you access to the space, reduced cost programs and rentals. Waiting for your
child at dance class? Bring a book and hang out while you wait. Invite your book club to meet. So many possibilities.
Check out their Facebook page for further information about upcoming events and how their memberships work. Welcome
        this new business to Downtown.
