Polly first became involved in the HHS Alumni association when she was working part time
for York’s of Houlton making customer service satisfaction calls. Jerry York ‘70, suggested to
In her free Barbara Doyle Bossie ’67 that she ask Polly to be on the HRH calling team to solicit HHS

alumni donations. At that time there were teams of 4-6 people from various businesses in
time, Polly town and there were monetary gifts for the highest caller and more importantly, bragging
rights until next year for being the winning team. The team had their name and year engraved
enjoys on a plate of the traveling trophy that went from business to business. The teams were all quite
competitive and wanted to see the trophy come back to their place of business each year. After
walking, a few years, Polly appeared to be the only competitive person remaining and now does the
calling from her home evenings after work in the late winter to early spring. Alum will answer
reading, their phone and say, “Hello Polly, hold on a minute while I get my card number for you.” She

finds it very enjoyable and still does a little competing by trying to beat her record total from
         knitting. and the previous year.

spending Polly says she would be remiss not to mention the others on the fund-raising committee who
work hard to process the donations she has obtained. The call sheets she works from must be
time with generated and printed, Patty Fitzpatrick ‘63 spends countless hours maintaining the data base
of phone numbers and entering all the data Polly obtains on the phone calls, mailing invoices
family and and receipts, etc. It is a well- organized group and the monies raised are always used for the
betterment of the community and future alum.
         friends.
In her free time, Polly enjoys walking, reading, knitting. and spending time with family and
                                    friends.

         Congratulations Jon McLaughlin ‘73!!!!

McLaughlin to become HHSAA Executive Director

As some of you may be aware, the Southern Aroostook
Development Corporation is looking for a new Executive
Director. Our own Jon McLaughlin ‘73 has been in that
position for the past 22 years and is retiring, but . . . thankfully
for HHSAA, Jon doesn’t want to get bored or slow down
too much. At the October meeting of the HHSAA Board of
Directors, we presented Jon with an opportunity to continue
with what he has already been doing on a volunteer basis and
expand his responsibilities to a paid position, details of which
are still being worked out. Now that the Alumni Association has
nearly $3 Million in assets, the board felt we needed someone
responsible for the overall operation of the organization.

So . . . Congratulations, Jon, on your next chapter in life! HHSAA looks forward to a long and mutually beneficial
relationship! For more on Jon, check the Meet the Board article in the Spring/Summer 2021 edition.
