Spotlight on Alumni
By Katie Widhalm Hill ‘05
Polly Joslyn
Class of 1977
I have had the pleasure of knowing Polly Carmichael Polly at work calling alums.
Joslyn ’77 since I was in Junior High at Houlton High
School and got to know her daughter Amanda Joslyn Schools ‘04 who came to Houlton from
Monticello back when there were separate schools in Littleton and Monticello, and we all joined
together at HHS in seventh grade. It is my honor to be able to submit an Alumni Spotlight on
Polly who is a dear friend and who does so much for the Alumni Association.
Polly was born in Houlton, ME in 1959 and grew up in Monticello, Maine on the East Road
(some may know it as the Britton Road) .
She and Gary Joslyn, Class of 1969 were engaged in 1976, and married in 1980. Gary and Polly
Polly - Her Years at HHS have two adult “kids” Andrew N. Joslyn ‘01 and his spouse Ashley, Amanda Joslyn Schools ‘04
and her spouse Jordan A Schools, ‘03. Fondly known as Bampy and Grammy, Gary and Polly
enjoy their after-school time with Oliver B. Joslyn who will be Class of 2034!
When asked to recount the best memories of HHS, Polly stated: “My Junior and Senior year when I began to be serious about
High School. I enjoyed my time in Mrs. Snell’s business classes, Mr. Garcelon’s Accounting classes and of course Mr. Gulliver’s
cool Business Office machine class where the latest gadgets were available for us to learn (most of which no longer even exist).
I recall Mr. Garcelon was concerned there were not enough students to offer an “Accounting III” class so he had me come in
during study hall and work on packets where we could function as the accountant for fictious companies. He bestowed the
1977 Accounting award on me during our graduation ceremonies, which to this day is a great memory.”
The same year of graduation saw Joslyn start her 33-year career
"The 1977 Accounting Award... at Houlton Regional Hospital where she enjoyed various roles
and enjoyed her time with her coworkers until her departure
which to this day is a great from there in 2011. From 2011 to 2018 she enjoyed working
memory" as the Office Administrator for Daniel J Corey Farms until
resigning to care for her mother-in-law, Cleo B Joslyn ‘48.
Polly tried a brief stint as a legal administrative assistant in
2019. In 2019 she returned to her passion of clerical healthcare (billing) taking a position at Northern Light Health in Presque
Isle. Seeing an opportunity to shorten her commute, she became the Claims Specialist at Northern Light Continuing Care in
Mars Hill.
